A man first asked a girl walking home from high school for directions before exposing himself in his car in Manhattan Beach, police said Thursday.

The encounter took place in the 600 block of Herrin Avenue, which is blocks from Mira Costa High School, Wednesday at 4:45 p.m., Manhattan Beach police confirmed. 

The girl was walking home when a small black car with tinted windows drove up near her.

The driver, a man who appeared to be in his 20s and wearing all black, asked for directions to the freeway, the girl told police.

As she gave directions, she saw the man exposing himself in the car. He took off heading east on 5th Street from Herrin Avenue.
