Marchers Rally for Student Feras Morad

Several dozen people gathered Thursday to march in support of Feras Morad, a student killed by a Long Beach officer, and call for the release of the officer's name.

Family and friends describe Morad, 20, as an aspiring lawyer and brilliant student who hoped one day to fight for justice for others.

The group is calling for national attention of the shooting, the name of the officer to be released and an indictment.

Morad was unarmed when he was killed by an officer last week. In a 911 call released Wednesday, a caller describes an intoxicated man who fell or jumped from a second-story window, bleeding and acting "kind of irate."

Long Beach police have defended the officer's actions, saying he tried to subdue Morad by stunning him with a Taser and using a flashlight with force.

Friends of Morad, including some who were with him that night, claim the shooting was not justified

"Any moment you spent with Feras is not a moment wasted," friend Kamiran Dadah said. "Anyone can make a difference. We want to fight to stop violence like this occurring, innocent lives to be lost."

Results of an autopsy have not yet been released.
