An investigation is underway after a man was found shot to death in the parking lot of an Island's Restaurant in Marina Del Rey early Sunday morning, officials said.

The shooting was reported just before 3:45 a.m. in the 400 block of West Washington Boulevard, LA County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau Lt. Holly Francisco said.

Deputies responded to the location and found a man lying next to a pickup truck, suffering from gunshot wounds, Francisco said.

Wolff and her neighbor, Carman Soriano, said they heard screaming after the gunshot rang out.

"He sounded extremely frantic," Wolff said.

Numerous residents tried to help the victim by administering CPR, but were unsuccessful.
