Mark Wahlberg To Receive Walk of Fame Star

Ceremony set for 11:30 a.m. July 29 at 6259 Hollywood Blvd., in front of Dillon's Irish Pub

Rapper turned film star and television producer Mark Wahlberg will receive the 2,414th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame July 29,
eight days before the release on his latest film, ``The Other Guys.''
  
Will Ferrell, Wahlberg's co-star in the action-comedy, and David O'Russell, the film's director, will join Wahlberg in speaking in the late-morning ceremony in front of Dillon's Irish Pub at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which administers the Walk of Fame, announced today.
  
Born June 5, 1971 in Boston as the youngest of Alma and Donald Wahlberg's nine children, Wahlberg first gained fame in the early 1990s in music, recording as Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.
  
The group's single ``Good Vibrations'' from the album ``Music for the People'' hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was certified as a platinum single. Its second single, ``Wildside,'' was certified as a gold single.
  
Wahlberg then turned to acting, debuting in the 1993 made-for-cable television movie ``The Substitute.'' His movie debut came a year later in ``Renaissance Man.''
  
Wahlberg's breakout role came in 1997's ``Boogie Nights,'' as porn star Dirk Diggler.
  
Wahlberg received a best supporting actor Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of  an abusive Massachusetts State Police staff sergeant in the 2006 best picture Oscar winner ``The Departed.''
  
Wahlberg's other film credits include ``Three Kings,'' ``The Perfect Storm,'' ``The Italian Job,'' ``Invincible,'' ``The Basketball Diaries,''
``Fear,'' ``Shooter,'' ``Max Payne,'' ``The Lovely Bones,'' ``Planet of the Apes,''  ``The Happening,'' ``We Own the Night'' and ``Date Night.''
  
Wahlberg is an executive producer of the HBO series ``Entourage,'' ``In Treatment,'' ``How to Make It In America'' and ``Boardwalk Empire.''
