A parolee was identified Wednesday as the suspect in the theft of a Maserati that was captured on surveillance video at a South Los Angeles dealership.

Jason Steigerwald (pictured, right) asked the salesperson at Motor Village LA whether he could hear the growl of the  engine, according to investigators. Surveillance video shows the suspect driving off the lot in the Maserati  the salesperson engages in a futile pursuit as the car heads north of Figueroa Street.

Steigerwald was released on parole just days before the Maserati was stolen July 18. Tips received after the release of the surveillance video led to the identification of Steigerwald as the suspect, according to authorities.

The undamaged blue Maserati was recovered Aug. 21.
