LA Mayor Eric Garcetti has started a new service initiative, the Mayor’s Volunteer Corps, asking residents to contribute three days a year to organize improvements in communities across LA.
Volunteers will help schedule events that will help Angelenos take on issues important to the community organized around five areas, according to a news release: education, workforce and economic development, neighborhood resiliency and veterans.
"Whether you are passionate about helping to end veteran homelessness or reducing drop outs, there's a place for you in the Volunteer Corps," Garcetti said in the release.
The Volunteer Corps was launched Saturday at an event in Boyle Heights, where the mayor participated in a community cleanup of Cesar Chavez Avenue.
