Surveillance Cameras Capture Burglars Wanted in String of Break-Ins in South Pasadena

Two men captured on surveillance video breaking into a South Pasadena restaurant may be part of a crime ring operating in the San Gabriel Valley, police said.

In September, at least eight restaurants in South Pasadena and Pasadena have been burglarized, including the Canoe House and Carmine's, which are both on Fair Oaks Boulevard. In each case, the burglars have used a crow bar to break open a door between 5 and 6 a.m. and had on similar sportswear.

At the Barkley Restaurant and Bar, a rear door was being repaired Wednesday after the burglars broke it down early Tuesday morning. In this case, surveillance camera captured clear images of a lone burglar's face. He's seen opening an empty safe and rummaging around the office. He didn't get any cash, but did shake up the staff.

"It's kind of scary," bartender Priscilla Johansen said. "With the holidays coming up, if it's happening this much now, I hate to see what's going to happen in the month of December. It's a scary time."

A still frame from the surveillance video at the Barkley shows two tattoos on the back of the burglar's neck. Another surveillance video shows a silver-colored sedan driving slowly through the rear alley around the time of the break-in. Police are calling it a "vehicle of interest."

Police say a large black SUV has also been spotted at the scene of one of the burglaries. In each case, one to three men are seen.

On Sept. 6, surveillance video captured two burglars armed with a crowbar attempting to break down a door inside Hi Life Burgers.
