Beach Evacuated After Military Device Washes Ashore in Laguna Beach

An Orange County Beach was evacuated Sunday afternoon after an old military device washed ashore, officials said.

The device, measuring 16 inches long and 3 inches in diameter, washed ashore in the Treasure Cove area of Crystal Cove State Park, said California State Parks spokesman Todd Lewis.

The device appeared to be of military origin, but it wasn't immediately clear exactly what it was.

The Treasure Cove area of the beach was evacuated 1,000 feet around the device, Lewis said.

Huntington Beach Fire was also responding to the beach along with the Orange County Sheriff's bomb squad.

No streets were closed as of 5:30 p.m., and no other areas of Crystal Cove State Park were affected by the incident.
