Video Captures Moment Military Father Surprises Family at Jewish Congregation

U.S. Major Moses Scheinfeld served in Afghanistan for almost a year

A United States Army major who had been serving military duties in Afghanistan for almost a year made a surprise return home to his wife and three young children Friday, Mar. 15, during a Jewish sermon hosted by the Harkham Hillel Hebrew Academy in Beverly Hills, and the heart-warming moment was caught on video.

U.S. Army Major Moses Scheinfeld swung open the doors of the packed auditorium and was quickly embraced by his children, his wife Rivka Scheinfeld and applause from dozens who sat in the sermon. Scheinfeld's children hung onto their father and wept tears of joy as the soldier shared a kiss with his wife.

Rabbi Boruch Sufrin invited Scheinfeld to the front of the crowd and opened the floor for the soldier to speak as applause continued to roar across the room.

"Where I was was 8,000 miles away," Sheinfeld said. "It's great to be home now, and I'm glad to be here."

Major Sheinfeld served with the 40th Infantry Division of the California Army National Guard in the south of Afghanistan. He was tasked with training and advising Afghan's National Army units.

His wife told NBC 4 News that his children missed him dearly ever since he left for Kandahar Airfield and that they used to watch videos of other military fathers and mothers surprising their families with a homecoming.
