19-Year-Old Deaf Man With Autism Found After Going Missing From Glendale

A deaf man with autism who went missing from Glendale over the weekend was found safe Monday and appeared to be OK, his family said.

Brandon Poschin, 19, was last seen at his home in the 400 block of Allen Avenue between 10 and 11 p.m. Saturday, said Tahnee Lightfoot of the Glendale Police Department.

Poschin was found in Alhambra on Monday afternoon by his family. They said he may have gone to the area because he wanted to visit Almansor Park.

His parents were distraught when he went missing. Their 15-year-old daughter died of ovarian cancer several years ago so when their son went missing, the thought of anything happening to him was too much to bear.

They drove around looking for him at his favorite places, including the nearby equestrian center. Earlier Monday, a relative posted fliers in the surrounding neighborhood.

Then about 2 p.m., his parents found him at Almansor Park. It's a park the man had tried to visit on his own before.

"He wanted to go there for the past month. A couple of times we'd catch him leaving and we'd open his backpack and we see bread, water an extra shirt, food, and his toothbrush. I guess ready to brush his teeth in the lake," his father Hugo Poschin said.

The park is more than 14 miles from his home.

He had a bike but no GPS, so his parents think he's been studying a map and plotting his big adventure for more than a month. When they found him, he was hungry and thirsty but otherwise OK.
