Dog Found in Albuquerque, 2 Years After Disappearing From Riverside Home

How the dog survived will likely remain a mystery but he was likely fed by someone.

A dog found in Albuquerque has been reunited with his owners after going missing two years ago and 800 miles away.

The Albuquerque Journal reports that Huxley, a paillon and collie mix, was flown Friday from Albuquerque to Reno, Nevada where his owners now live.

Someone dropped the dog off last week at a local shelter after he was found wandering.

Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department director Paul Caster says Huxley had a microchip which led to a phone number for his original owners. Justine Mendez and Michael Martin say Huxley disappeared from their Riverside, California home in 2014.

The family received the surprising call from the animal welfare department.

"They said, 'We have your dog Huxley,' and then they said he was in New Mexico, and I said you've got to be kidding me," Mendez told the Albuquerque Journal from her home near Reno. "With Huxley’s character of course, he would end up being the dog 1,000 miles away."

How the dog survived will likely remain a mystery but he was likely fed by someone.

Mendez says, judging by pictures, Huxley has gotten a lot chubbier.
