Bryce Laspisa, 19, of Laguna Niguel was reported missing after his 2003 Toyota Highlander overturned near the Castaic Lake main boat launch access road on Friday, Aug. 30, 2013.
Sheriff's deputies on Tuesday pursued and arrested two men who allegedly broke into the car of a father who was out searching for his missing teen son near Castaic Lake.
The break-in happened about 1 p.m. near the intersection of Lake Hughes Road and Elizabeth Canyon Road in Castaic, said Sgt. James Anderson of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.
The men reportedly targeted vehicles of people who were there to search for Bryce Laspisa, 19, who has been missing since Aug. 30. Laspisa's father was among the victims of the break-ins.
Sheriff's deputies chased the men and arrested two men on a nearby dirt road minutes later, when the suspects' vehicle became disabled, Anderson said.
Anderson said the suspect's names were not being released Tuesday night.
On the "FIND BRYCE LASPISA" Facebook page, the family posted thanks to "Rich Tons @ Sunglo for replacing the window of Mike's car that was broken into while he was searching. The donation was a blessing."
On Aug. 30, Police found Laspisa's crashed SUV, but the college student was missing, possibly after having crawled out of a broken back window of the wrecked vehicle.
Since then, search crews have combed the rugged terrain and searched the large, man-made lake for any sign of the college student.
On Sept. 4, firefighters responded to a report of a brush fire in hills near where Laspisa went missing. Upon extinguishing the flames, they discovered a charred body.
Details about the body have not been released. Sheriff's officials placed a security hold on the body, preventing the coroner's office from releasing any information about the case.
