More Than 100 Camarillo Springs Homes Evacuated as Deputies Go Door-to-Door Overnight

The mandatory evacuation was lifted at 3:15 a.m. for the slide-prone Ventura County community

Camarillo Springs residents were forced to leave their homes in the middle of the night when sheriff’s deputies knocked on their doors early Wednesday.

The mandatory evacuation orders were lifted around 3:15 a.m., meaning residents were able to return to their homes if not red-tagged or deemed unsafe by authorities.

Deputies started going door-to-door with evacuation orders for more than 100 homes starting at 12:30 a.m. A mandatory evacuation means the rapidly changing conditions will bring imminent threat to residents’ lives, per Ventura County Emergency.

This comes after at least 16 homes were red-tagged by firefighters, meaning they are unsafe to live in, and 24 damaged when mudflow rushed through a Camarillo Springs neighborhood.

A shelter opened at Leisure Village Recreation Building, 1200 Leisure Village Drive, Camarillo 93012.

Overnight showers were reported across Southern California. By about 5:30 a.m., the heaviest rain moved into the San Bernardino area and continued to quickly move east.

Unincorporated Camarillo: Potrero Road between Cal State Channel Islands (Oxnard Street) and Rancho Dos Vientos
