More Than $2M in Tax Refunds Waiting to be Claimed in Riverside County

Riverside County residents have until Aug. 3 to file for unclaimed property tax refunds

Riverside County officials today reminded residents and businesses that there's more than $2 million in property tax refunds waiting to be claimed.

According to the Treasurer-Tax Collector's Office, 1,217 individuals and commercial entities are eligible to receive the unpaid refunds, which date back to tax year 2010 and before.

The total amount of unclaimed money is $2,243,482. Individual refunds range from a few dollars to more than $80,000 owed, according to the Treasurer- Tax Collector's database.

A full list of individuals and entities entitled to claim the funds can be found here.

Parties have until Aug. 3 to file a claim. After that, the Board of Supervisors is expected to allocate the money to the general fund for discretionary use, as provided under state law.

In previous years, the board has postponed re-allocating unclaimed funds out of concern that those entitled to them weren't provided sufficient notice about their availability. Supervisor Marion Ashley suggested that by sending out word now, the board will not entertain a postponement three months from now.
