A mother was shot in front of her 15-month-old son Saturday night while they both sat inside an SUV in Compton, authorities said.
The shooting was reported around 10 p.m. in the 1000 block of Grandee Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Department's Compton station.
Deputies said an unknown shooter fired several shots at a woman in her car while her son sat in the back seat. The woman in her 20s was struck twice. After the shooting, the woman took off to Central Avenue and Alondra Boulevard where she was able to call 911.
The woman was taken to a hospital where she was listed in stable condition, deputies said. The child was uninjured and was reunited with family.
No description of the shooter was immediately available.
