Motorcyclist Dies After Pursuit Crash in Orange County

The rider was chased after being observed speeding on the northbound 5 Freeway near Santa Ana

A motorcyclist was killed after crashing during a police pursuit in Orange County early Saturday.

The rider was chased after being observed speeding on the northbound 5 Freeway near Santa Ana at around 1:51 a.m, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The motorcyclist refused to pull over, exiting the freeway at Grand Avenue and heading north.  

The chase ended at around 1:55 a.m. when the vehicle hit a chain link fence outside of Plaza Square Park in Orange, throwing the rider from his cycle. He died at the scene.

The traffic circle at Glassell Street and Chapman Avenue is  to be closed for an unknown duration of time.
