Ousted Lawmaker Arrested After Pursuit in San Bernardino County

Hours after he became the first person in Nevada history to be kicked out of the state Legislature, an embattled former lawmaker allegedly led police on a chase on a freeway between Las Vegas and Los Angeles that ended with a violent struggle with uniformed officers.

An attorney Steven Brooks said he's disappointed to hear his client was arrested after a high-speed freeway chase in California.

Brooks was arrested at about 7 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 15 outside the city of Victorville, California Highway Patrol Officer Don Spiker said.

It was Brooks' third arrest since January, and the second involving allegations that he fought with police. Lawmakers cited concerns about their own safety around him in voting him out of the Legislature.

Authorities said Brooks argued with a tow truck operator, fled in an SUV, tangled with uniformed officers on the side of the road and attacked a police dog with a wrench. He was hit with a stun gun before his arrest.

Brooks' lawyer, Mitchell Posin, said he had no details about the arrest, or about why Brooks was on the interstate in Barstow.
