As smart phones allow people to chat face-to-face, often requiring them to look down at their devices, some users are noticing an unsightly double chin highlighted in those video conversations. And they don't like it.

So, what exercises can you do to slim down your chin? None, according to a LA-based doctor who is developing an injectable drug designed to eliminate double chins.

"Under the chin is an area where removal of a small amount of fat will produce a dramatic effect," said Dr. Michael Kolodney of Los Angeles BioMed Research Institute.

Kolodney is a dermatology chief at Harbor UCLA Medical Center and co-inventor of ATX-101, an injectable drug designed to eliminate double chins.

The drug is being developed at LA BioMed, based at Harbor UCLA Medical Center. Patients get an injection once a month for four months. So far, the clinical trials are promising, Kolodney said.

"It's a difference that's visible to the patients compared to the placebo and it's obvious to trained observers as well," he said.

Getting rid of a problem area not enough of a benefit? There’s more, Kolodney said.

"The drug may even produce skin tightening as the body heals from fat destruction, so even if they don't have excessive fat, they may still get some benefit," he said.

It takes up to six months to achieve the full effect, and Kolodney said his friends are offering their faces to their pal’s endeavor.

"They often want to volunteer for the studies," he said.
