Sounding like welcome news in tough times, European plane-maker, Airbus, has awarded a $10 million dollar contract to a firm in Harbor City.

DailyBreeze.com

reports that in a ceremony on Tuesday, the company touted its extensive U.S. investments, and then announced it was awarding that lucrative contract to McStarlite Company in Harbor City.  No doubt, extremely welcome news to the city because that contract will reportedly allow McStarlite to add as many as 45 new employees.

DailyBreeze.com quotes Joe Theveny, the company's local contracts manager as saying that the hiring could begin in mid-2010.

The six-year contract calls on McStarlite to produce parts for the new Airbus A350 XWB plane, a mid-size, wide-body family of airliners that Airbus is developing.

"This new contract will not only provide us with additional work for the coming six years, but also will allow us to stay at the cutting edge of new technology,"  DailyBreeze.com quotes McStarlite Vice President John Allen Basso as saying in prepared remarks.

This partnership is nothing new.  McStarlite has worked with Airbus for the past decade building parts for several of the company's airliners.
