A Newhall landlord discovered the bodies of two tenants inside a rented home on Monday afternoon, according to the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Department.
A man and a woman were discovered at about 5:30 p.m. inside a guest house in the 24000 block of Heritage Lane near Maple Street in Newhall, officials said. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
By 11 p.m., investigators were still on scene, emphasizing that their presence does not necessarily mean the deaths are a crime.
The landlord told The Signal that he hadn’t heard from the pair "for awhile," so on Monday he went to check on them.
"I rang the bell. There was no answer, so I went in, and he was right inside the door on the floor," Leonard Miller, landlord of the house, told the newspaper.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives were called to the scene. The pair's death has been classified as suspicious, according to investigators.
A cause of death has not been determined, though officials on the scene said the bodies showed evidence of decomposition.
