A 25-year-old man suspected of bludgeoning his parents to death in their North Hollywood family home appeared in court Tuesday.
Jonathan Mercado faces two counts of capital murder, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
His arraignment hearing at Van Nuys Superior Court was postponed until Sept. 25, a spokeswoman for the office said.
Veronica Mercado, 47, and Alexandro Mercado, 51, were killed last Friday, according to prosecutors.
The Veronica Mercado's body of was found wrapped in a sheet in an abandoned pickup truck in Sun Valley. After discovering the body, police proceeded to the Mercado home in the 8100 block of Radford Avenue in North Hollywood (map).
There, in a bedroom, they found Alexandro Mercado's body, also wrapped in a sheet.
Jonathan Mercado was arrested early Saturday morning. He lived in the home with his parents and two younger siblings, the District Attorney's Office said.
Prosecutors will not decide whether to seek the death penalty until later in the case.
A judge ordered Mercado held without bail, the DA's spokeswoman said.
