NorCal Mom Drops Last Teen Off in Nebraska Before Safe-Haven Change

A 14-year-old California boy has become the last child to be abandoned in Nebraska before that state changed its safe-haven law.

Authorities say the boy's mother drove him from Yolo County to Nebraska's Kimball County Hospital on Friday and left him.

He's been placed in a foster home while Nebraska officials contact appropriate agencies in California.

Thirty-six children have been left at Nebraska hospitals since a law passed earlier this year allowing people to drop off youngsters without risking arrest. However, the law didn't have an age limit.

Legislators made some changes and as of Saturday, drop-offs are limited to infants no more than 30 days old.
