The suspect in an Orange County hit-and-run that left a 13-year-old girl injured was arrested Tuesday, according to Santa Ana police.
Arif Abdul Sattar, 65, of Fountain Valley, was booked for felony hit and run, and was in the process of being bailed out Wednesday evening, said Anthony Bertagna, spokesman for Santa Ana Police.
Sattar's arrest comes more than a week after Teresa Pham,13, was struck while riding her bicycle in Santa Ana.
At about 7 p.m. on Feb. 6, Pham was riding through a crosswalk at the intersection of West Warner Avenue and South Greenville Street when she was hit by a vehicle, authorities said.
The suspect vehicle was described as small - that is, it was not a truck or SUV - but there was no further description available at the time.
Sattar reportedly returned home the night of Feb. 6 and told his family that he had been involved in a collision, Bertagna said.
The suspect contacted an attorney who, in turn, contacted Santa Ana detectives on Feb. 8 claiming he was representing a person who may have been involved in the collision.
After interviews with Sattar and examining his vehicle, police arrested the suspect. When Sattar was to be booked, he reportedly showed up with a bail bondsman, Bertagna said.
Pham suffered significant injuries, and was in intensive care immediately following the incident. She broke her leg, and had stitches from her ear to her chin, according to her father.
A witness used his black Suburban to shield Pham's body from oncoming traffic, according to police.
