Off-Duty Sheriff's Deputy Killed in Fiery Motorcycle Crash in Corona

An off-duty Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy was killed in a fiery motorcycle crash in Corona, authorities said Saturday.

Philip Borja, a 25-year-old sheriff's deputy, and another motorcyclist were traveling eastbound on Hidden Valley Parkway near the 15 Freeway just before 4:30 p.m. Friday when a Ford Fusion entered the roadway and collided with Borja, according to the Corona Police Department.

The second motorcyclist drove off onto westbound lanes to avoid the impact and both motorcycles ended up striking a Volkswagen Beetle. Borja's motorcycle and the Volkswagen Beetle burst into flames.

Borja and the second motorcyclist were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The drivers of the vehicles involved were not hurt.

Borja, a resident of Upland and sheriff's deputy assigned to the Norwalk Station, died as a result of his injuries, Corona police said.

No arrests have been made and no one has been cited in the incident, police said. The collision was under investigation.
