Officer Dies at Shooting Range

A South Pasadena police officer died Tuesday during a training exercise at a firing range in Azusa.

Kevin Sandoval’s body, covered with the American flag was taken Tuesday night from a nearby hospital to a coroner’s van as fellow officers paid their respects.

Kevin Sandoval, just 23 years old, had only been on the South Pasadena Police Force for two years.

Sandoval was doing firearms training at the Burro Canyon Shooting Park in Azusa. Police said he fell and hit his head.

He was transported to a hospital in Glendora where he died.

But the head injury may not be the cause of death. A police spokesman said the injuries do not appear to have caused his death.

The final cause will be determined by the Los Angeles County Coroner.
