One Injured in Echo Park Officer-Involved Shooting

The officer-involved shooting happened near the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Echo Park Avenue

One person was injured in an officer-involved shooting in Echo Park Tuesday morning that led to the closure of Sunset Boulevard for the investigation.

The shooting occurred in the 1500 block of Sunset Boulevard near Echo Park Avenue. Officers responded to a radio call regarding shots fired at 12:15 a.m.

"They encountered a suspect and the officer-involved shooting resulted," said Sgt. Herb Chang of the LAPD's Rampart Station. 

The subject was struck several times and transported to a hospital, Chang said. He was in critical, but stable, condition.

The man is facing possible charges of assault with a deadly weapon, said police.

There were no officers injured in the incident.

Sunset Boulevard remained closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic Tuesday morning.
