A suspected prowler shot by police was in critical condition Sunday afternoon.

Police continued to investigate the officer-involved shooting that occurred Sunday morning on the 7100 block of Woodlake Avenue in Canoga Park, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department said.

An officer fired his weapon at the suspected prowler after the burglar pointed a gun at the officer, said Cleon Joseph, spokesman for the LAPD.

Paramedics rushed the suspected prowler to a local hospital. He was in critical condition Sunday afternoon, Joseph said.

The shooting occurred near the corner of Sherman Way and Woodlake Avenue at 5:40 a.m.

Officers did not identify the man, and said no officers were injured.

NOTE: An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported that the suspected burglar had died. As of 4:25 p.m., he is in critical condition, according to the LAPD.
