Pursuit Driver Leads Officers on Chase From Boyle Heights to Norco

The suspect led officers through three counties before surrendering in Norco.

A man in a stolen BMW led officers on a high speed chase from the Boyle Heights area through three counties before surrendering in Norco.

Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Transit Policing Division observed the vehicle in the area of the Hollywood (101) and San Bernardino (10) freeways about 8 p.m. and learned the vehicle had been stolen after running the car's plates, said sheriff's Lt. Jesus Carrasco.

They followed the sedan until the California Highway Patrol began a chase on the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway at Atlantic Boulevard.

The BMW reached speeds around 90 mph as it was driven north on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway then east on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway to southbound Interstate 15.

The driver exited in Norco and pulled into a fast food restaurant parking lot, where he surrendered about 8:40 p.m.

Riverside Highway Patrol officers recovered a large bag of methamphetamine from the BMW. During the chase, the driver was throwing a white powdery substance out the car window, said Sgt. Willie Bowen of Riverside CHP.

The driver, identified by authorities as 42-year-old Frank Gutierrez of Montebello, was on probation for a previous drug charge.
