Officers Shoot Man Holding Meat Cleaver in Long Beach

No officers were injured during the shooting.

A man holding a "meat cleaver" was wounded Thursday night during a shooting involving police in Long Beach, authorities said.

The shooting occurred around 11:19 p.m. when officers responded to reports of an assault in the 300 block of Sunset Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

When officers arrived at the residence, a man came out of the residence armed with a meat cleaver, said Sgt. Megan Zabel.

The man refused to drop the meat cleaver and an officer-involved shooting occurred, Zabel said.

The man was transported to a hospital in stable condition, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

The Long Beach Police Department and District Attorney's office were at the scene conducting an investigation.
