Ojai's Most Lavender-Lovely Month

Everything's coming up purple in the Pink Moment burg.

YOU SAY "JUNE," we say "June," a lot of people say "June," for it is a clear and time-honored way of referencing the sixth month on the calendar. But if you were to say "the time of lavender" to a resident of Ojai, they'll likely think you're talking about June, without you ever having to mention the month by name. For June is Lavender Month in the creative-cool town, and while we'd never dare put purple over pink, when it comes to Ojai, we just might for a few weeks in the late spring and early summer. For, yes, Ojai is famous for its nightly "Pink Moment," when the sky and mountains turn a shade of light mango (or dark watermelon, if you prefer), and that particular pink is very much associated with the place. But it is all about the purple come June, both in the lavender-growing fields in the fertile nooks and crannies near town and at the Ojai Valley Lavender Festival, which always arrives near the end of the month. Which it will again in 2018, for...

SATURDAY, JUNE 30... is the upcoming date for the purple-est party around. All sorts of lavender-amazing things, from plants to foodstuffs to beauty items to clothing to jewelry, will be for sale, and there shall be tunes, too, to make the whole start-of-summer scene as convivial as possible. If lavender is your go-to herb, your go-to yard cover, your go-to hue in home decorating and your wearables, and a natural wonder that fills you with its fragrant joy, then this might be worth a visit one year, or every year. Where else to go while there, for more lavenderishness? Frog Creek Farm is a favorite lavender-focused stop, and there is, for those looking to stay in town, the famous Lavender Inn.
