On patrol, Wednesday night. On the lookout for illegal fireworks.
Fire officials say any firework that launches or flies into the air, scoots across the ground, or explodes, is illegal.
Only 39 cities in Los Angeles County allow the sale and use of "Safe and Sane" fireworks. 50 other cities do not. Fireworks are also prohibited in all of the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.
Under California law people caught with illegal fireworks could be fined between $500 and $1000. They could also go to jail.
In 2011, the City of La Mirada issued some 80 citations. LA County reported 37 structure or brush fires, all because of illegal fireworks set off on the 4th of July.
Sheriff Deputies took to the street this 4th of July to try to make sure that doesn't happen again.
"We want people to have a nice time. Enjoy the 4th of July and our independence," according to Lt. Patrick Valdez, of the LA County Sheriff's Department, "but we want them to be safe about it."
