One Dead, Others Injured After Wrong Way Crash in Fullerton

A dark colored sedan was traveling the wrong way when it crashed head on with a dark colored SUV.

One person was dead and three others were taken to the hospital after a driver collided with with an oncoming car in Fullerton early Sunday morning, authorities said.

The crash was reported around 2:30 a.m. on the 700 block of South Lemon Street in Fullerton, according to the Fullerton Police Department.

A dark colored Honda Civic was traveling the wrong way when it crashed head on with a dark colored Lincoln SUV. A 28-year-old passenger in the Honda, later identified as Pedro Pineda-Navarro of Placentia, died at a hospital, according to the Orange County coroner's office.

Both drivers were suspected of driving under the influence, said Sgt. Dan Castillo from the Fullerton Police Department. The driver of the SUV driving the correct direction was arrested and taken to the police station.

Three people were taken to University of California, Irvine Medical Center, including the driver of the SUV, Fullerton police added. The condition of those people was unknown.

Both sides of Lemon Street were closed for investigation, but were reopened after both cars were towed.
