Fatal Crash in Beverly Hills Follows Road Rage Hit-and-Run, Police Say

One person died, three others were hospitalized in the near-midnight crash

A traffic collision sent a car flying into trees in Beverly Hills, killing a woman and injuring three other people just before midnight Friday, police said.

Witnesses of the crash told the Beverly Hills Police Department the crashed car, a Mercedes-Benz, had fled a minor hit-and-run nearby involving road rage nearby, according to a Beverly Hills Police Department news release.

The driver of the Mercedes died in the crash after colliding with a silver SUV and slamming into a tree at the intersection of Olympic Boulevard and Swall Drive, police said. Investigators believe she was not wearing a seat belt. She was later identified as Sasha Gibson by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office.

Three others in the car were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, while the occupants of the SUV were safe.

The car fled a collision with a taxi cab about two blocks away near Pico Boulevard and Swall Drive, according to the news release, which cited witness reports that indicate road rage was involved.

"The Mercedes-Benz had fled this scene at a high rate of speed before colliding with the [SUV], several trees and a concrete wall," the news release said.

The intersection of Olympic Boulevard and Swall Drive was closed for about five hours as investigators examined the scene, but it since reopened, police said.

It was unknown whether alcohol or driving too fast were factors in the crash, or if any other vehicles were involved, police said.
