For Sale: used 150-acre fairgrounds in Orange County. Asking $96 million. Deep fried Snickers extra.
If your in the market, the California Department of General Services has put the Orange County Fairgrounds up for sale for a second time.
Gov. Schwarzenegger opted to put the fairgrounds up for sale for the first time last year to help balance the states beleaguered budget. But bids came in below state officials' projections so the city of Costa Mesa stepped in and attempted to broker a deal with a private developer to purchase and operate the site for $96 million.
State Department of General Services spokesman Eric Lamoureux says his agency decided to relist the property again Tuesday, since the deadline for legislation on Costa Mesa's proposal was just a week away and it was unclear if it would be approved.
Lamoureux says that third-party involvement triggered the need for the additional legislation. Lawmakers have until Friday to author it.
