“Now It's Hard to Trust Anyone”: OC Man Sentenced for Sex Assaults of Girls He Met in Church

The father of the other victim on Friday described the defendant as a wolf who disguised himself as a sheep to prey on victims.

A Santa Ana man convicted of multiple felonies and misdemeanors for sexually assaulting two girls he met through church was sentenced Friday to 30 years to life in state prison, prosecutors said.

David Verduzco, 35, was a parishioner at the Agape House of Prayer in Anaheim, where he met the two girls and their families and befriended them, according to a news release from the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

“You were really close friends with my family and now it’s hard to trust anyone," said one of the victims at the sentencing Friday, according to the news release. "The way I feel now is that I’ll be scared forever and I don’t want to remember this at all when I get older.”

The father of the other victim on Friday described the defendant as a wolf who disguised himself as a sheep to prey on victims.

For much of 2011, Verduzco gave one of the victims, a 12-year-old girl, keyboard lessons, during which time he kissed her on the cheek, touched her thigh, sent her inappropriate text messages and recorded video from underneath her skirt while she sang and played the keyboard, officials said.

Also in 2011, he baby-sat for the other victim, a 10-year-old girl, and two other girls. After putting the two other girls to bed, the release said Verduzco "digitally penetrated" her in her bed.

Verduzco was found guilty earlier this month of three felony counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14, one felony count of sexual penetration with a child 10 years or younger, and a misdemeanor each of child annoyance and disorderly conduct.
