A power outage in Palm Springs interrupted to electrical service to about 7,200 customers for about an hour Wednesday morning.

The outage was reported at 8:42 a.m. when "major equipment" failed at a substation that supplies power to southwest Palm Springs, Lauren Bartlett of SoCal Edison said.

The outage spanned from Via Escuela to the north, East Via Estrella to the south, North Sunrise Way to the east and Via Monte Vista to the west, Bartlett said.

Edison crews fixed the equipment by 9:49 a.m., Bartlett said.

By 9 a.m., the mercury had risen to 92 degrees, Stan Wasowski of the National Weather Service said. Temperatures are forecast to reach as high as 114 degrees by Wednesday afternoon, he said.
