The Los Angeles Board of Water and Power Commissioners approved new water conservation rules Thursday that include giving city leaders the right to lower the number of lawn-watering days from three to two days per week.
If approved by the Los Angeles City Council, the revisions backed by the panel would be made to the Department of Water and Power's emergency water conservation ordinance, which has been in place since 2009.
The city currently restricts outdoor watering to three days a week, but under the proposed revisions, city leaders will be given the option to adopt a two-days-per-week watering schedule if they find that not enough water is being conserved.
Department of Water and Power officials said the new rules give city leaders the flexibility to respond to mandates by Gov. Jerry Brown to reduce water usage by 25 percent.
Under the proposed two-days-per-week schedule, outdoor watering at odd-numbered addresses would only be allowed on Mondays and Fridays, while even-numbered addresses would be limited to Thursdays and Sundays.
