PSG Beats Leicester City 4-0 in Carson

Paris Saint-Germain scored twice in the first half en route to a victory over Leicester City

On Saturday, French champion Paris Saint-Germain and English champion Leicester City met in Carson, California in a preseason friendly which could well be a Champions League match in a couple months' time.

A sellout crowd of 25,667 filled the StubHub Center to witness a 4-0 PSG victory in the final International Champions Cup preseason match held in Southern California.

The Parisians got off to the livelier start, and the early pressure led to an error in the back when Leicester City midfielder Daniel Amartey caught PSG forward Jonathan Ikone in the box. The whistle blew and stiker Edinson Cavani converted from the penalty spot to give the French champions a 1-0 lead.

After an assault from Leicester City saw the Foxes draw close on several occasions, a quick break the opposite way resulted in a nifty give-and-go between Thomas Meunier and Ikone. This time, Ikone converted his chance, as PSG took a 2-0 lead only moments before the half.

To start the second half, Leicester City manager Claudio Raneiri made several substitutions and put out a side that closely resembled the starting lineup expected on the opening day of the season, save for striker Jamie Vardy. Vardy is still out due to a wrist injury that requires a cast. He is expected to be fit ahead of the start of the Premier League season.

While Leicester City appeared to be squashing all of PSG's attempts in the early stages of the second half, a series of substitutions from Parisians led to a goal moments later. Only two minutes after coming onto the pitch, Brazilian Lucas Moura headed in a beautiful cross delivered by compatriot Maxwell.

With the game decided, Raneiri took off star midfielder Riyad Mahrez, who won the PFA Player of the Year award for the 2015-16 season. PSG would add another goal in the 90th minute, as substitute striker Odsonne Edouard got behind the defense and finished with ease.

Leicester City will next face Barcelona in Sweden before meeting Manchester United in the Community Shield on Aug. 7. The Foxes will begin their title defense on Aug. 13 away to Hull City.

PSG will begin its Ligue 1 season on Aug. 12 away to Bestia, after playing Lyon in the French Super Cup on Aug. 6.
