Teen Shot to Death Outside School in Pacoima

A teenager was shot and killed outside a school in Pacoima Monday morning in a gang-related slaying, police said.

The shooting was reported at Van Nuys Boulevard and Norris Avenue outside Pacoima Charter School at 2:20 a.m., said Officer Norma Eisenman of Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations unit.

The victim, who died at the scene from a single shotgun wound to the head, was a male between 16 and 18. His attackers were males between 16 and 20, authorities said.

Investigators hoped to clear the scene before school began, but the area was still sealed off as concerned parents walked their children to school.

"The first thing that came to mind was, there's a body," a parent said."It happened right in front of the school. Is it safe for me to come to school?"

Police continued to look for witnesses and searched for surveillance video.

A shell casing from a semi-automatic handgun was found at the scene, police said.
