The boy's mother was pushing the child underwater at a Palmdale apartment complex pool, witnesses told deputies

Neighbors intervened when a mother attempted to drown her 8-year-old son Thursday in a Palmdale apartment complex swimming pool, according to sheriff's deputies.

Deputies were called to the 2500 block of East Olive Drive at about 7:30 p.m. Witnesses told deputies that the mother was pushing her child underwater and telling the boy the end of the world was near.

"She's telling him, 'Son, you have to go,'" said witness Susan Williams. "He saying, 'No momma, I don't want to die.'"

The boy was taken into protective custody. The mother, identified as 33-year-old Allaire McDougall, was being held on $1 million bail.
