Parents Arrested After Leaving Child Locked in Car for Hours: Police

Police had to smash a car window to rescue a child allegedly left alone in a car for two hours in Hesperia Tuesday night.

The 3-year-old was noticed by employees and a Good Samaritan at the Walmart in the 13400 block of Main Street at around 11 p.m. during one of the warmest days of the season in Southern California, a Hesperia Police Department spokesman said. Lawmen broke a car window and pulled the child from the vehicle.

"It's ridiculous. How could any parent leave their child in a car? It's downright disgusting," witness Deanne Diaz said, "You just want to cry for that poor child.

"You could tell he had been crying for a while... he was definitely over-exhausted. He didn't have (any) breath in him. He was definitely really tired. They're very lucky it was not super hot outside, because he... probably would have died."

Police and store employees made multiple attempts to page the parents, and when they were finally arrived they were taken into arrested.

The youngster has since been handed over to child protective services.
