A former parole agent has been sentenced to 90 days in jail for embezzling funds from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation so he could buy prescription drugs from a parolee.
The Orange County Register reported Monday that 50-year-old Scott Patric Keblis, of Chino, pleaded guilty to one felony count of embezzlement by a public employee and one misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance.
Prosecutors said Keblis, while a state parole agent, obtained bus passes and $40 Target gift cards from the agency, claiming he needed to give them to a parolee under his supervision.
Instead, prosecutors said, Keblis went to meet with a parolee who was not under his supervision and exchanged the bus passes, gift cards and $30 of his own money for prescription hydrocodone pills.
