Police dogs and officers swarmed a West LA neighborhood Thursday during a search for robbery suspects.

The attempted robbery occurred at a Chevron -- combination  gas station and convenience store. The LAPD had been tracking the subjects and officers were positioned outside the store.

The activity began at about 2 a.m. near West  Olympic Boulevard and South Bundy Drive.

Officers said four men pulled up to the store in a white SUV. Two men entered the store and pointed a gun at the cashier, police said.

One man was shot at the store and taken into custody. Police with a specially trained dog found another subject on a roof.

"It was like a war was going," a witness told NBCLA. "They just methodically went through each backyard, looking for this guy."

Two subjects remained on the run early Thursday, but a third subject was taken into custody at about 8 a.m., according to police. That subject was found behind an Osh store.

Nearby roads were closed during the search, but were reopened later Thursday morning.

Police said officers were outside the store because they knew of crimes in the area. A nearby coffee shop had been robbed at gunpoint twice in the last three months.
