Driver Arrested in North Hills Fatal Hit-and-Run

A driver who led police on a pursuit was arrested after a hit-and-run that killed a man early Saturday morning in North Hills, officials said.

The hit-and-run was reported around 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Sepulveda Boulevard and Parthenia Street, said Detective Bill Bustos of the Los Angeles Police Department Valley Traffic Division.

A late-model Toyota Prius was traveling northbound on Sepulveda when it struck a male pedestrian who was crossing against a red light, Bustos said.

The vehicle did not stop and took off from the scene, where the man was later pronounced dead, Bustos said.

Shortly after, San Fernando police noticed a vehicle that matched the description of the hit-and run vehicle driving erratically, Bustos said. Police then initiated a pursuit.

The pursuit ended in West Los Angeles near the Pacific Coast Highway, where spike strips were laid down and the vehicle slowly came to a stop, Bustos said.

The LAPD is investigating whether the driver in the pursuit is connected to the hit-and-run.
