After a man was struck and killed by a minivan which crashed into a busy Burbank sidewalk Friday night, police said the driver of the car had been stabbed in the chest before the crash happened.
The crash was reported about 5:40 p.m. at the intersection of Olive Avenue and San Fernando Boulevard, near Burbank's Village District, according to Burbank police Lt. Scott Meadows.
The Toyota SUV minivan sideswiped a parked car before jumping the curb and hitting a pedestrian. The man, 52-year-old Rodolfo Tan, was pinned under the vehicle and died, police said.
Police say the driver of the minivan, a 32-year-old man from Glendale, had been stabben in the chest prior to striking Tan.
Cell phone video from the scene shows first responders struggling to rescue the driver, who was seriously injured.
Danny Lopez, a witness, said the scene was graphic and that he saw "a lot of blood" and not a "lot of movement."
"It's Christmastime! Everybody's trying to get their shopping done," he said. "There was hundreds of people gathered around this area, I'm surprised there wasn't more than one injury. If not a couple dozen."

The primary cause of the crash was unknown. No arrests have been made, but detectives have spoken with the minivan driver's family and are trying to find out how and when he was stabbed.
The driver is in critical condition and has not been able to speak with investigators, police said.
