Woman Shot During Home Invasion Robbery in Rancho Cucamonga

A 71-year-old woman was shot in the chest during a violent home invasion robbery in Rancho Cucamonga early Saturday, authorities said.

The San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a call of a shooting in the 7100 block of San Carmela Court around 4:10 a.m.

A robber broke a window to enter the home in the Rancho Cucamonga neighborhood where the woman lived, according to Det. Jeremy Snyder of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's Rancho Cucamonga station.

The woman woke up and went downstairs to confront the intruder, Snyder said. 

The robber shot the woman, who was later taken to a hospital for treatment. She was in stable condition as of 9 a.m., according to Snyder.

The armed robber fled the scene. The property taken by the robber was not immediately known.

Authorities are investigating the scene. A detailed description of the robber was not immediately provided.
