Pet-Only Airline Coming to LAX

How bad can the economy be if investors are funding this type of thing? LAX will be one of five airports serviced by Florida-based Pet Airways, an new airline that's dedicated to cats and dogs, reports the Sun-Sentinel. Tickets are estimated to be about $250; cats and dogs fly in a 19-seat turbo plane, and the airline is trying to launch by July. Here's your quote from a pet travel analyst: Sue Smith, president of pettravel.com, tells the paper, "People are always looking for alternatives to putting their pets in cargo. The challenge they're going to have to face is filling their planes." The Baltimore Sun notes that "the service generated so much interest that traffic to the company's Web site crashed the company's computers this afternoon." [Sun-Sentinel/Baltimore Sun]
