The 60 Freeway reopened to traffic in Ontario on Tuesday night after an hours-long standoff with a man who was perched on an overpass.
Officials received a call about 6:10 p.m. of a man in distress. He was allegedly acting erratically on the right shoulder of the freeway.
California Highway Patrol officers, along with Ontario police and firefighters, responded to the scene. A negotiator tried to talk the man off the freeway.
At one point, rescuers managed to get a rope around the man’s legs, but he broke free and began screaming at them.
The man was taken into custody about 10:30 p.m.
Traffic was backed up to the 71 Freeway to the west and Haven Avenue to the east during the standoff.
