A low-speed police chase ends near Lincoln and Euclid streets in Anaheim Sept. 27, 2013.

Two children were rescued Friday night from a pursued car, allegedly driven by their father who is suspected of stabbing the children’s mother then taking them on a police chase that spanned two counties, according to an Anaheim police official.

The driver allegedly stabbed his children’s mother Thursday at an apartment complex in the 2100 block of Lincoln Street, Anaheim police Sgt. Bob Dunn said. The driver then took the two children.

The stabbing victim was treated and released from the hospital Thursday. She told police about 6 p.m. Friday that she had been stabbed the night before and her attacker took the two children they share together, Dunn said.

A chase began when Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies spotted the driver’s silver sedan in Norwalk about 9 p.m. Friday.

The pursuit traveled toward Anaheim, where it ended about 9:30 p.m. near Lincoln and Euclid streets. An Anaheim police squad car pulled up alongside the driver and pushed the sedan into the center divider.

Driving with multiple tires blown out, the driver retained speeds less than 35 mph for about half the duration of the chase. When speeds picked up, the sedan would fish tail, with smoke and sparks flying from the wheels.

Minutes before the chase ended, the driver lost a tire, causing pursuing officers to swerve out of the way to avoid the rolling wheel.

The driver was arrested and will be booked on charges of felony assault and domestic violence, Dunn said.

Depending on who has custody of the children, the driver may also face charges of kidnapping, Dunn added.
