Search Continues For Taxi Driver's Attackers

The attack landed the cab driver in a local hospital's intensive care unit, police say

Police asked for the public's help on Monday to find a couple who attacked a cab driver when he asked them to get out of his cab after the woman became irate and began shouting profanities.

"It was unbelievable," said Marco Soto, the victim's colleague at Fiesta Taxi. "I couldn't believe someone would attack our driver."

"He hasn't been talking much," Soto added. "He's probably scared and in shock."

The 57-year-old driver, who wasn’t identified, spent days in the hospital after the April 27 attack near Leonardo's Night Club, a Latin dance club in Huntington Park, police said.

Surveillance footage from inside the car captured the couple as they sat behind the cab’s partition, according to Huntington Park Police Detective Michael Navia.

The male was described as Latino, 5 foot 8 inches tall and 160 pounds. He had a moustache and was wearing dark cowboy style clothes, a black cowboy hat and black cowboy boots.

The female was 5 foot 5 inches tall and 170 pounds. She was wearing jeans and a green blouse.

The incident began when the female flagged down a taxi. The driver picked them up and began traveling down the street when the woman became irate and shouted profanities at the driver, police said.

The cab driver pulled over and refused service, throwing the door open and asking the couple to get out.

The couple then began beating the taxi driver, police said.

Anyone with information about the attack should contact Huntington Park police at (323) 826-2177.
